The Vikings are coming!

These are the first of my Wargames Factory Vikings.

 These are the Wargames Factory sampler pack. I actually bought quite a few packs.

What do I think of them? Well, quite good actually. There were a few problems, I had to hack the arm of the archer and fill the gaps and I am not sure I like the possing of some. Maybe I picked the wrong arms (there are loads on ther sprue) but the wide armed stance seems to be a bit much.

Workstation?

Most modellers will tell you how important a good workstation is. Unfortunately, I don't have one. In fact, as we are very limited for space, my whole painting station is portable. Almost all my tools and equipment is stored in a tool box hidden behind the fridge and brought out when I get the chance to paint!

This is my toolbox, in it are all my tools and a good selection of paints. I do have many other paint and transfer them into my toolbox depending upon the project(s) I am currently working on.

In this shot you can see my workstation fully depolyed! The white board to the right is a breadboard on which I place my current project(s). This is then placed on top of the toolbox for storage. BTW the figures in this shot are my Vikings being painted.

Marauders of Chaos

Finally got round to finishing my GW Marauders. These have been hanging around in a box almost finished for at least 18 months!

Saker

This is my finished Saker. Its based on MDF with the crew on individual bases (magnetic tape on bottom to hold them in place). As always I've used Warlord Dip (medium) painted on.

 

  

The 'fallen tree' is a large twig from the garden.

English Civil War Cavalry

I've just finished the first four of my ECW cavalry from Warlord. These plastic figures have turned out really well. I've not gone for either side just tried to get a general trooper. They were finished with Warlord games dip and Matt spray.

The Next Generation

A popular topic amoung gamers is how to get the younger generation involved. So here's a picture of my contribution!

This is our neighbours little lad Wilf (2) busily painting his Knight (a very old citadel plastic from Battlemaster).

Podcasts

I listen to loads of gaming podcast's (probably far too many) and thought I'd pass on my opinions of some of my favourites. I've added quick links in the sidebar. So, in no particular order, these are my favouite podcasts:

Meeples and Miniatures
This is what it says about itself:

Meeples & Minatures is a podcast about all aspects of Miniature Wargaming and Strategy Boardgames. The first episode was produced in January 2007, which makes it one of the longest running wargaming podcasts currently available.

The show is produced every month, and discusses all aspects of Miniature Wargaming and Strategy Boardgames – concentrating on historical wargaming and the ’smaller’ titles in fantasy and sci-fi, so you will find very little about Warhammer, 40K or Warmachine/Hordes on this podcast. Many boardgames are also discussed, with the emphasis being on those that involve either miniatures, or some form of conflict.

Up until January 2009, the show has been a solo podcast, hosted by Neil Shuck (aka Earthquake on many online forums).

However, from the start of 2009, Neil has been joined by two co-hosts; Dave Luff and Jere Koskela.

In addition, we are also very pleased to have a regular guest slot with Henry Hyde – the editor of Battlegames magazine.

I find this show one of the best around. Highly recommended.

d6 Generation

A very professionally produced American show about many aspects of the games hobby but with a definite emphasis's on the established game companies (Games Workshop, Privateer Press etc). They cover many other aspects of the hobby (board and miniature). Very entertaining and definitely worth a listen even if you are not into the above companies.

Noisemakers Podcast

A much more shoestring type of podcast, very friendly in tone, by an American Pastor about his attempts to game 'big battles' on a budget. Well worth listening to.
